Create a Lasting Legacy

A planned gift to Oregon Desert Land Trust can help conserve Oregon’s high desert for the future. There are many ways to include ODLT in your plans, and some can provide significant tax benefits. Here are some of the simplest and most common.

Planned gifts aren't just for people with large estates. Gifts of all sizes can make a meaningful difference.

MAKE A BEQUEST.

A charitable bequest is a meaningful way to create a lasting legacy while potentially providing tax benefits to your estate or family. Charitable bequests can reduce the taxable value of your estate and may lower or eliminate estate taxes. They can also be changed or revoked if your circumstances or wishes change.

You can leave Oregon Desert Land Trust a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or whatever remains after other gifts and expenses are distributed. A bequest can be made through your will or revocable living trust and allows you to make a future gift while retaining full use of your assets during your lifetime.

The following sample language may help when creating or updating your estate plans. Your attorney or other qualified advisor can tailor your plans to your circumstances.*

I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to Oregon Desert Land Trust (Federal Tax ID: 82-2857455) an Oregon nonprofit organization, located at 2843 NW Lolo Dr, Ste 200 Bend, OR 97703  ____% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate [or $____ if specific amount] for Oregon Desert Land Trust’s general use and purpose.

NAME US AS A BENEFICIARY.

Designating our organization as a beneficiary of your retirement account lets you both give back and gain tax savings. IRA accounts listing Oregon Desert Land Trust as the beneficiary are free of estate and income taxes. Fill out a beneficiary designation form from your plan custodian and name ODLT as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or 403(b).

You can also name ODLT as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. This simple step directs the policy proceeds to us and may provide tax benefits to your estate.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, TALK WITH US.

If you’re considering a planned gift or simply have questions about your options, we’re happy to talk with you. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
